Maple syrup
CM2 LV1 students from Nicole-Marie’s class got a little taste of spring when they had a pancake breakfast in class last March. This activity was the conclusion of a unit on maple syrup and Amerindian legends. Many of these students had never tasted maple syrup before and will no longer eat their pancakes without it now… Through readings and creative writing activities students explored the Amerindian culture and how they came about discovering the making of maple syrup. Jérémy Desplaces writes :
“The maple syrup is like a sweet juice with sugar.
It was first discovered in North America by the
Natives. It is now exported everywhere in the
world. As you need maples to produce it, only
North Americans can make it because you can’t find
the maple sugar tree specie anywhere else.”
